Dave Crisp

Leadership effectiveness

Dave provides a wide range of strategic human resources and performance consulting to a broad spectrum of organizations, tailoring to their specific needs. Among other projects he often helps organizations evaluate their current Human Resources (HR) operations and develop stronger approaches. Since Dave speaks regularly about HR strategies and trends, is a member of several major professional organizations in related areas and a key writer and thought leader for an HR think tank organization (Strategic Capability Network), he can advise clearly on the latest, practical, results-oriented thinking in easily implementable terms.

Dave is a former senior HR executive, having led Human Resources for 70,000 people during 14 years at Hudson Bay Company (HBC) – the oldest commercial corporation in North America and one of the oldest in the world. In addition to HR, Dave’s work at HBC included policies, privacy, ethics and communications and for two years a $10 million business start-up in Internet, loyalty and catalogue marketing (which included setting up five Asian operations in 10 months). He is proudest to have built a team that helped HBC’s people regularly vote it into the top few biggest of the “50 Best Companies to Work For in Canada”. That required developing programs for and coaching 4500 managers and executives and being able to see what worked and didn’t in closely matched situations – in effect a huge laboratory for someone who studied psychology at university.

Before HBC Dave directed Personnel at two large Toronto hospitals following careers in education, counselling and leadership, which included ultimately running for member of parliament. Dave holds a BA in Psychology, a Masters of Education and the Canadian Human Resources Professional (CHRP) designation – as well as various education leadership qualifications.
